Have you ever wondered how an energy company manages automatic delivery? How do we know when a tank is running low? We do it by combining two factors:first, we use historical data from your account to determine a "k factor," then we track the weather using a "degree day" system that is specific to the area. The K factor is the rate at which a home uses heating fuel, and it is affected by many factors, including home size, its insulation, and the thermostat settings.
Using a calculation involving K factor and degree days, an energy company can determine with reasonable accuracy when your tank is running low. Companies generally error on the cautious side in order to ensure that they fill a tank before it runs low.
It is important to note that neither market fluctuations nor retail prices have bearing on when we deliver your fuel. Nor do we deliver when we have enough oil or propane. Rather it's up to mother nature and a precise mathmatical formula.
